I started this project shortly after completing the 36th Ave Surf House, and I'm happy to finally be sharing the results! 25th St Residence is in San Francisco proper and its owners are a young couple who care about three main things for their home: comfort, longevity, and ease of maintenance. With kids in the future, longevity also means kid-friendly. They had recently purchased the house and didn't have much by way of furnishings, however many pieces and decor were kept or purchased from the previous owners. My clients knew they liked the clean lines of mid-century style furniture, color, and minimal decor or fuss, so I took up the challenge of working with the existing rugs and window treatments to create a place that would feel like home.

The living room had window treatments that were a pretty difficult color to work with, but by pulling out some of the underlying green tone and featuring the green in the color scheme, I was able to keep the feeling of the space contemporary. To add some personal flavor, I worked with the owners to select photos they had taken on their travels and have them blown up for art.

The master bedroom had a lot of purple to work with. Since the drapes were staying, I had the accent wall painted white to match the other walls and added a few pops of color with decor to complement the drapes.

Similarly to the living room, the family room had existing drapes and rug to work with, and travel photos were decided as the central focus for the wall decor. Given the existing bold colors, we went with a neutral sofa that was comfortable for people at both ends of the height spectrum and added punches of color with a handful of accent pieces. Overall the goal was to create a feeling of comfort and warmth, and the natural wood tables were critical in helping achieve that.

This was a great project for me to step outside of my comfort zone and work with colors that aren't normally in my palette, as well as be especially attentive to material choices, making sure that spills would be easy to wipe off (no marble) and kids would be safe (no sharp edges). Overall, I'm happy with how 25th St Residence hit all my clients' goals!
